This event is organised by Permaculture Toowoomba Inc.

Bookings are Essential

Bookings are essential so that we have contact details and know how many will be attending.

What We'll Do

We’ll start at 2.00 pm with a welcome and introduction.

Join Permaculture Toowoomba Inc. for a practical workshop exploring the tools that help us grow productive gardens, care for our soil, and work effectively with nature.

Presented by Clint White and members, this session will look at choosing the right tools for the job, exploring different kinds of garden tools, and learning how to use them well. We’ll also discuss common mistakes and how to avoid using tools in ways that make gardening harder than it needs to be.

Clint will share some of the tools he has made himself, including a broadfork and a hoe, and explain how useful tools can be adapted or created to suit our needs.

Explore the tools

Alongside the main presentation, several demonstration tables will give you an opportunity to look more closely at practical tools and techniques, ask questions and share ideas.

You can expect to explore:

  • Plant Health: Dave Toal will demonstrate how a Brix meter measures soluble solids in plant sap or juice and discuss how this measurement can be used when exploring plant quality.

  • Garden hand tools: A selection of hoes, hand forks, trowels, secateurs and weeding tools.

  • A-frame and Bunyip water level: See how these simple tools help us identify contours and plan gardens that make better use of water.

  • Soil and compost tools: Soil pH testing kit, soil jar test, and compost thermometer to explore.

  • Seed saving and propagation: Dibber, seed-saving sieves and other simple tools used for collecting and propagating plants.

There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions, exchange experiences and learn from one another. Bring your curiosity and your own questions about the tools you use in your garden.
