The Gardening Basics workshop will help you to match what you want to eat with what you want to grow by giving you the confidence to get started in your garden growing easy, failsafe veggies, herbs and fruit trees. If you’d like to get your edible up and running quickly, then this is the workshop for you. You will walk away with the skills to turn your backyard into a dream edible garden.
This workshop is hand-on and will feature a tour of Green Connect’s extensive market gardens where you will see how (in just 8 years) we have turned 11 acres of disused land into an urban, edible oasis. We grow and fill veg boxes that feed over 170 households in the Illawarra every week – we know a thing or two and we’d love to share these with you.
The site is a working farm and is particularly steep and slippery in parts and, at this stage, is not accessible for prams, wheelchairs etc. The workshop includes a moderately strenuous walking tour of a steep, sloping and often very muddy site. It is your responsibility to ensure you can walk the site before making your booking. See the video above to check this is right for you.
