Event description

The Kooyongkoot Alliance, with a grant from the State Governments Green Links Program, together with the Urban Guerrillas, Friends of Gardiners Creek Reserve and local community groups, are restoring 1.2 ha (12,000m2) of neglected habitat, alongside a section of Gardiners Creek in Gardiners Creek Reserve, Burwood.

Please come along and join us for a morning of regeneration through planting and weed removal along the side of the creek (so we do not have to spray near sensitive water areas). It’s not all hard work, we also have guest speakers to talk about what positive actions are being taken to care for the creek and the fauna that will benefit, and a free BBQ to finish up.

This project coincides with a recently completed project upstream, restoring and creating a corridor for indigenous flora and fauna along the creek. The project aims to encourage species such as Rakali, Spotted Pardalotes, Eastern Blue Tongued Lizards and the endangered Gang Gang Cockatoo to the location.

Whitehorse Council have fenced areas for recovery/ refuge habitat for flora and flora.

The project will deliver:

· Weed removal.

· Revegetation: approximately 16,000 indigenous plants.

· Installation of habitat logs, rocks and nesting boxes.

· Community planting days and citizen science events.

We are working closely with the project team City of Whitehorse, Urban Guerrillas, Deakin University, as well as community supporters, Friends of Gardiners Creek Reserve, ACF (Australian Conservation Foundation), Presbyterian Ladies College and others.

Please register your interest in the event today!!!

See you there.
