Gathering in the Gold Coast for UPJ leaders
Event description
OVERVIEW
Gatherings for UPJ leaders are held in alternate years to the UPJ Biennial conference. All UPJ presidents and ARC members are warmly invited to join with the UPJ Executive for these meetings about topics relevant to the running of our congregations.
UPJ presidents are also encouraged to invite any other leaders they feel would benefit from attending.
PROGRAM
Below are some topics that have been suggested; the program is still being developed/confirmed (note: all sessions will be held at Temple Shalom, 3 St Paul's Place, Surfers Paradise)
“Connecting our communities; what we learned from the listening campaign to engage 30-40-year-old demographic";
"Continuation of Presidents’ and Treasurers’ Roundtable discussions”;
"Establishing Tamar young adults and Tikkun Hayam branches in Australia”;
"Techniques for talking about Israel, and how this can empower our communities”;
"The Future of Progressive Synagogues";
"Talking About Judaism".
We also plan to hold the UPJ and ARZA AGMs on Sunday.
REGISTRATION FEE
The registration fee, which is subsidised by the UPJ to make it as affordable as possible is $235 per person, which includes:
- Friday conference sessions, including morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea
- Friday night service and dinner
- Shabbat morning service and lunch, followed by afternoon sessions
- Saturday night dinner, hosted at Kate Lesser's home
- Sunday conference sessions, including morning tea and lunch
ACCOMMODATION
There is a wide range of accommodation available, and we encourage attendees to book at the hotel that suits their budget and other requirements. The UPJ Executive has found a reasonable rate at Meriton Suites, Surfers Parade (Studio Apartments are $180 per night). Please note: We recommend booking as soon as possible, as Schoolies will be taking place during this time and availability may be limited.
OTHER INFORMATION
We encourage attendees to plan to arrive on Thursday 23 November so they are ready for the meetings to begin on Friday 23 November at 9.00am (at Temple Shalom).
For those who arrive by midday on Thursday 23 November, we hope to offer an optional trip to Mt Tamborine with Rabbi Adi Cohen, which will include a trip to a distillery.
As David Knoll and Brian Samuel will be stepping down from their roles at UPJ Co-Presidents, we will have the chance to honour their incredible contributions ... and also have some fun with a "roast" on Saturday night!
