Gathering in the Grove

Join us for our inaugural community memorial picnic in the shady lawns behind Tender Funerals Canberra Region.

We invite you to bring a picnic blanket and food to share that was special to the person you're remembering.

If you're feeling creative, you can join in our art project, facilitated by Su Hanfling from Wagtail Workshop. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy the time spent with others who are remembering their own person. Hit n Miss drummers, Canberra's own all-female African drumming group, will help get us in the mood.

We'll hold a small ceremony of remembrance with local musicians Paul and Kate from Poetry In Motion and share a meal together. It will be a lovely, peaceful way to enjoy some daylight saving. The kangaroos may even come down from the golf course...

On the day...

4:00pm Arts activities and picnicking to songs chosen by our community (nominate yours when you register)

5:30pm Our ceremony of remembrance will begin

6:00pm We can continue to enjoy our shared food and company

Frequently Asked Questions...

• Do I have to have used Tender Funerals for the funeral of my person?
  Not at all. Everyone is welcome.

• What do I need to bring?
  Please bring a picnic blanket or chairs and a plate of food to add to our community table. We'll have labels available on the day for you to list any dietary or allergy concerns for others. If there is additional food or drink you'd like to bring for yourself or your group, please do so. Please also bring sunscreen and sunhats.

• What if I have accessibility needs?
  There will be paved areas available as well as the grassy areas. If you're unable to bring your own chair, we can provide one. You can provide more information about your needs when you register. We also have two accessible bathrooms on site.

• Will any tables be available?
  There will be tables and chairs for the art activities and a small number of tables and chairs available for picnicking.

• Do I have to participate in the activities?
  Only if you want to. If you'd rather just sit and be part of the atmosphere, that's fine too.

• Can I bring my children?
  Absolutely.

• What if I'm late? Or if I need to leave early?
  You're welcome to arrive or leave at any time. We will start the picnic and the ceremony at specific times (the schedule is being finalised) which we'll update here shortly.
