GATHERING / SEEDS: Come for a Good Threshing
Description
Yes, there will be actual threshing.
Sunday, Nov 15, 2 – 4pm @ Morton Memorial Library, Rhinecliff
Join Dirty Gaia for an afternoon of seed saving, storytelling, hands-on threshing, & seedy snacks.
Seeds are living archives that hold ancestral memory, cultural knowledge, and the promise of continuity. Every seed we save carries the lessons of what grew well, what fed people, what was cherished. Saving seed builds resilient foodways and ecosystems, and keeps that inheritance in the hands of the people who tend it.
Join us in being part of a beautiful tradition that has nourished humans for millennia and that can help us build resilience and hope for the future.
Come learn with K Greene, Director of Seeds and Engagement at Hudson Valley Farm Hub, and founder of Hudson Valley Seed Co.
K will share about the power of seeds and the stories they carry – plus a look at native and pollinator plant selection and other exciting seed-keeping projects. We'll open it up for discussion and Q&A, then get hands-on: try your hand at threshing, meet a variety of plants, and become a seed-keeper.
Feel free to bring plants to thresh or seeds to share (extra seeds can go to the Morton Seed Library!).
For kids: the library's beautiful makerspace will be open for seed-related art and activities during the event hosted by Art A-Go-Go Creation Station..
Free & open to all. We welcome community gardeners and seed savers, as well as beginners who are just wondering where to start.
