Gay Resilience: 8 songs of 1976-1990
Event description
Feel the pulse of queer resistance through 8 iconic tracks that shaped our joy, grief, and defiance. From Sylvester to Peter Allen, this audio-visual experience blends music, politics, and memory in a night that will move you deeply.
Courtyard music, drinks and finger food from 6:00 PM
Gay Men were singing their hearts out during the tumultuous period of 1976-1990, when an assertive gay lib entered pop culture to complement the high camp songs of the times. But the HIV pandemic introduced an urgency to songs demanding health services and social justice. Video clips of eight songs, both widely celebrated still and some now not so well known, are screened in this presentation. Stories of the international, Australian and Northern Territory community politics during that era accompany the songs - bringing together Peter Allen, The Village People, Queen and John Spellman!
