GAY24 Presents: Imogen Binnie's "Burlington, Vermont"
Event description
Surprise! GAY24 is back for one more event on 2024. It is our incredible privilege to present Imogen Binnie's unproduced screenplay "Burnlington, Vermont", as read by a bunch of trans people in the Flippy's beer garden.
All proceeds from any tickets sales will be going directly into the Incarcerated Trans & Gender Diverse Community Fund, who's aim is to generate financial assistance to support trans people while inside, to aide in their release, and to help with re-establishing life back in their community post-release.
In 2024 GAY24 showed forty-one queer films over twenty-seven screenings across two continents! That's heaps! To celebrate, we've gotten together a crew of friends to help us pull off one of our silliest ideas yet.
Our headline attraction for the evening will be a live reading of famed transexual author Imogen Binnie’s unproduced screenplay “Burlington, Vermont”. Binnie wrote the screenplay during lockdown, but upon shopping it around was promptly informed that the script was "unfilmable" due to "intellectual property law". It's a screenplay that finally answers the question "what if Love, Actually (2003) was set in Burlington, Vermont, and also everyone was trans?"
Imogen Binnie's Nevada is notorious for transing an entire generation of prospective gender deviants, and remains a modern classic of queer literature in every possible sense. It is our great honour to give voice to her latest opus and expose it to a wider audience.
Following the live performance, the night will descend into bacchanalian revelry, with music, dark corners, and a vibe best described as “conducive to bad decisions.” We look forward to seeing you there.
