Lunch and Learn - Take Action Together for Gender Equality and a Safer Mallee

This event has passed Register

Event description

This FREE one-hour Lunch and Learn webinar will empower you and your organisation with knowledge and simple actions that will help create gender equality and prevent violence against women and children in our lives and in our communities.

The Mildura Local Government Area has the highest rate of family violence in Victoria and the highest rate where children are present*.  Last year, 77% of victims of intimate partner violence in our community were female*.

It is too often a hidden crisis, but the causes are well understood and there are preventative actions we can all do something about every day.

That is why a coalition of local services have joined efforts and resources to bring this simple yet powerful opportunity to people and organisations across the Mallee during the 16 Days of Activism against gender based violence #16DaysMallee.

We can change the story and create a future where we are all safe, equal and respected.

Details

Date:  Wednesday 29th November (online via zoom)

Time:  12.30pm to  1.30pm - Our presenter Shannon will stay online afterwards for any questions.

Suggestion: We encourage organisations to use this easy and free opportunity to take action during the 16 Days of Activism by encouraging staff to register or bringing them together for this webinar over lunch with some catering.

You will learn:

  • What the often unknown causes of violence against women and girls are.
  • Why gender equality is key to preventing violence against women and girls.
  • What gender and gender equality is.
  • How taking action in the workplace can help create a more equal and just community.
  • Gobal evidence and Victorian examples.
  • What you/your organisation can do!

Who is this for?

Anyone who identifies with the following statements:

  • I don't know much about gender equality or preventing violence against women but I'm open to learning.
  • I want violence against women and kids to stop but I'm not sure what I can do.
  • I'd like my organisation and staff to understand and do more about this issue.
  • Why do people talk about gender equality, aren't things in Australia pretty equal?
  • I could do with a refresher on gender equality and violence prevention.
  • I get the basics, but I want to go deeper in my understanding. Additional sources and ideas for action would be great.
