Event description

A female-majority workforce doesn’t mean gender equity is solved.

It means we’re perfectly placed to drive real change.

Progressing gender equity in the workplace is essential for building a fair, safe, inclusive and economically secure WA. As a significant employer of WA women, the WA community service sector plays an important role in supporting women’s long-term economic security and gender equity more broadly.

Join us to hear about two sector-led projects examining pay and conditions in the WA community services sector and practical recommendations for employers to embed gender equity across the sector.

During this webinar you will hear from the following:

Sophie Hantz and Rose Newbury-Freeman from the WA Council of Social Service (WACOSS), and
Jessica Murray from the Centre for Women's Safety and Wellbeing's (CWSW).

WACOSS and CWSW have conducted research seeking to understand the extent to which the workers in the sector have access to workplace entitlements and conditions known to improve gender equity outcomes.

This research has resulted in recommendations for systemic change that will enable improvements to gender equity for workers in WA’s community service sector.

Recognising the reality of funding constraints besieging the sector, this research took a practical view of the issue at hand. Recommendations include those that can be implemented by the sector on current funding levels as well as recommendations to government that focus on supporting the sector to deliver better outcomes for employees.

Alia Glorie from Community Legal WA

Workforce challenges are a major barrier to legal assistance in WA. Community legal services find it hard to recruit and retain staff to meet rising need, especially in regional, rural, and remote (RRR) areas.

Community Legal WA is leading the Community Legal Workforce Project to understand and address these challenges. As part of the project, CLWA conducted the first comprehensive pay and conditions study of WA community legal services and built a profile of the workforce.
