Gender 101 - Belong mini training
Description
This training is funded by the Queensland Mental Health Commission and is free to all lived-living experience workers in Queensland
Belong
Belong trainings are developed and delivered by lived experience peer workers for people who work with and want to create an affirming environment for LGBTQIA+ people.
Our "101" trainings draw from our full-day Belong LGBTQIA+ trainings and are a chance to increase your confidence on specific topics, fill knowledge gaps and ask any questions you have. This training will be specifically tailored to those who work in LLE/Peer Work roles, and will be followed later in the year by a panel discussion with guests who have worked from both an LGBTQIA+ and LLE perspective.
Gender 101 will touch on some of the following:
Gender-related words and definitions
Pronouns and best practice
Creating an affirming environment
We've extended the session length to allow for self-reflection, discussion and questions as we go through the training and amended the content to make sure it feels relevant for a LLE audience.
Please note: registrations will be capped for this training to allow for meaningful participation. If you register and can no longer make it, please either cancel through Humanitix or email sinea@brookred.org.au so we can give your place to someone else.
Better Together Lived-Living Experience Workforce Project
Better Together is a Queensland-wide project focused on strengthening and ethically grounding the Lived/Living Experience (LLE) workforce. Led by Brook RED and funded by the Queensland Mental Health Commission (QMHC), the project responds to calls to better recognise, support, and guide lived experience work across diverse roles, settings, and communities.
As part of this this, the project will deliver a state-wide Continuous Professional Development (CPD) calendar, designed to support learning, reflection, and skill-building across the LLE workforce. CPD offerings will be developed in collaboration with lived experience-led organisations and will reflect diverse perspectives, practice contexts, and regions.
We start from a simple position: lived experience is not an “input” to systems change - it is the lens through which ethical, meaningful change must be imagined and led. This project is grounded in relationships, diversity, and shared responsibility, and aims to support ethical practice and ongoing learning that reflect the real-world contexts in which lived experience work happens.
