Description

Discover the beauty and calm of the Cowra Japanese Garden & Cultural Centre, a 12.5‑acre haven designed by renowned landscape architect Ken Nakajima. As the largest Japanese garden in the Southern Hemisphere, it offers something special for every visitor.

Families can explore winding paths, spot colourful koi, feed the fish and ducks, and enjoy open spaces perfect for gentle adventures. Couples will find serene lakes, waterfalls, and quiet corners ideal for reconnecting. Mature visitors can wander at a relaxed pace, taking in manicured landscapes, traditional Edo‑style buildings, and the soothing sounds of nature.

Created as a symbol of peace and friendship between Australia and Japan, the Garden provides a restorative experience year‑round - whether you’re joining us for a peaceful day out or a cultural workshop.

FAQs

  • Are we Pet friendly?

Yes, we allow dogs and cats on leads. We also have pet bags available on arrival to help you pick up any mess that they may leave behind.

  • Do we have Buggies available?

Unfortunately no, due to the health and safety of both our visitors and garden, we have had to remove the golf buggies from the Garden. We do however have a manual wheelchair free for hire to assist our disadvantage guests to experience the Garden.

  • How long does it take to walk around the Garden?

We recommend allowing 45 minutes to an hour to stroll through the Garden and enjoy its full tranquil beauty. Your ticket is valid until our 5pm closing time, so you’re welcome to stay as long as you wish. Many visitors choose to spend the whole day or return later to experience the Garden in the soft, fading light of the afternoon before our gates close.

  • Can we take food into the Garden?

Yes! We highly recommend having a picnic in the garden. Our Cafe also offers Take Away if you wish to order from their delicious menue and enjoy it under a tree or in the wisteria pagola.
