In this session, you’ll discover practical ways to identify local sources of funding, assets, and capital that can drive local initiatives, support shared goals, and deliver lasting community benefits. We’ll explore ways to generate new income streams and assets that can help fund community services and sustain local enterprises. You’ll learn about strategies to prioritise and activate local capital enabling communities to retain greater ownership and control over economic activities and build financial self-reliance, resilience and long-term prosperity.

Whether you're a community leader, business owner, council member, economic or social impact professional from a government or non-government organisation, this session will help you support your community, organisation or other communities in achieving these goals. The topics in this session can be applied to a wide range of challenges faced by communities across Australia, from housing affordability and cost-of-living pressures to small business viability and the shift to a sustainable, circular economy.

• Explore how to think differently about generating capital: Understand how place based capital approaches create benefits that traditional methods miss.
• Discover how to uncover existing sources of money and funding: Learn how to identify overlooked or untapped financial capital in your area. 
• Explore how to create new funding streams and sources of income: Learn ways to generate new forms of capital—such as service-based revenue, rental income, dividends, investment returns, and ecosystem service payments—to support local needs and build financial resilience.
• Learn how to identify existing and establish new assets for community benefit: such as land, natural resources, buildings, businesses, facilities, infrastructure, equipment, inventory and intellectual property.
• Explore real-world examples: Gain inspiration from communities that have successfully generated and grown local capital.
• Apply strategies and solutions to real-life examples: Apply these strategies to your community’s goals and challenges, those you are working with and/or to explore sectoral and issue-based applications.
