    Event description

How do designers living in the present, design for the future? What role can generative AI play in supporting designers to forecast trends and design for longevity?

Our home is a narrative system. To develop effective speculative design strategies we must understand the relationship between design, meaning, and use. To cultivate sustainable systems we must consider how any specific design requires a shift in habits that can be constantly impacted by our changing world.

Enter Tim Stock from scenarioDNA and the Parsons School of Design. Tim runs culture mapping workshops using generative AI to examine evolutions in language and culture to better understand how our designs must anticipate changes that provide better investments and direction of resources.

Tim will be joining us live from NY to take us through how he utilises generative AI as a foresight tool. Tim is a clear thinking and passionate presenter; expect insight and benefit from live demonstrations of the generative tools Tim works with.

Tim has over 22 years of experience in brand strategy, trend forecasting, product innovation, and consumer anthropology, helping companies understand how and why culture is changing and how to use that information to make better design and business decisions. As a co-founder and managing partner of scenarioDNA, a global cultural foresight consultancy, Tim applies semiotics, the science of signs and symbols, to reveal patterns and insights that drive innovation and growth for clients across various industries and markets.

Tim is also an Associate Teaching Professor at Parsons School of Design - The New School, where he shares his passion and expertise in design research, creative thinking, and cultural analysis with the next generation of designers and innovators. Tim has co-created a patented system and method for Culture Mapping, contributed to a book and several publications on subcultures, behavior, and meaning, and taught courses on design thinking, creative research, and cultural analysis. Tim's mission is to empower brands and organisations to create meaningful and sustainable solutions that resonate with diverse and dynamic audiences

As part of the DIA’s Accredited Designer program, we offer Continuing Professional Development (CPD) through our learning resources. CPD is most effective if undertaken continuously to ensure a currency of skills and knowledge. Attendance at this event is worth 2 CPD points.

DIA events are presented with the support of our Community Partners GH Commercial and Clipsal.
