Buxtehude’s sublimely simple vocal chaconne, Herr, wenn ich nur Dich hab is a joyous ode to the love and comfort from God, followed by J.S. Bach’s Weichet nur, betrübte Schatten, written for the celebration of a marriage. Henry Purcell’s An Evening Hymn concludes the evening, leaving audiences with music piercing their soul.
