    Event description

Join us for an exciting cross-regional hybrid partnership event, that seeks to connect people and projects along the WA Ocean.

Presentations from projects across the WA's Coastline will be given from a variety of locations through life streams (Geraldton, Perth and Bunbury).

    Speakers

    •    Nic Dunlop (Geraldton): The Conservation Strategy Launch for the Australian Fairy Tern

The newly established WA Seabird Conservation Network Inc will present on its research and conservation efforts, and launch its Conservation Strategy for the Australian Fairy Tern in the mid-west and Abrolhos Regions. These efforts will tie into the work of the Indian Ocean Seabird Group.

    •       Dr Kim Lema (Bunbury): Educational Marine Areas (EMA) Australia

Dr Lema will present on the Educational Marine Areas (EMA) concept, originating in the Marquesas Islands (French Polynesia) in 2012 and expanding to over 1000 locations, including Australia’s first EMA in Margaret River. EMAs are small coastal areas actively managed by primary and secondary school students. Accompanied by their teacher and assisted by expert marine scientists, the students study the area and its environmental values and decide how to preserve its natural and cultural heritage.

    •       Rada Tomanovic (Perth): Community Impact, Management & Mapping of Cottesloe’s Natural Areas

The Town of Cottesloe and Cottesloe Coastcare Association (CCA) have invested considerable effort in maintaining and improving the condition of the natural areas in Cottesloe. Rada, from Syrinx Environmental, recently undertook a vegetation condition survey of the Town’s natural areas and present comparative results against a baseline survey undertaken in 2015.

The event is coordinated by WA's Coastal and Marine Community Network (CMCN) with funding from CoastWest Grants and supported by the Delphine Discovery Centre Bunbury.
