Get Growing! Verge Gardens: A garden to share with your community
Event description
If you're a fan of ABC's Gardening Australia, you will have seen the absolute joy and sense of community that everyone's favourite garden gnome, Costa Georgiadis, has created in his verge garden right out the front of his home in Sydney's eastern suburbs. As neighbours, friends and complete strangers wander past, the opportunity to share produce, seeds, planting tips, even a warm cuppa and a chat is a more than a daily occurance.
This is no accident! Creating a verge garden is a revolutionary act! One that brings the benefits of free food - passers by can pick fresh herbs and other goodies you grow to share, but also community connection, social cohesion, a sense of belonging, a deep sense of generosity and a lovely feeling that nothing is required in return.
In our 3 hour workshop, we'll be sharing our experience of creating a 'Food Is Free' verge garden here in Killcare, we will share what's worked, what has been a challenge and we'll be doing some practical improvements with your help on the day to improve this little space. We hope after this workshop you'll be inspired to create something similar out the front of your place to share with all the lovely people you meet wandering along your street.
We provide a delicious morning tea in the beautiful Greenheart Garden, a working permaculture space in the heart of the Bouddi region.
