Get into rockhounding this summer!
In this show and tell program we will let you know the best resources to use to find amazing rocks, safety tips, rules and regulations, the clubs to join for group rockhounding – and how to identify our local rocks!
You can travel far or rockhound in your own backyard, amazing rocks are everywhere! In Western Montana you can find quartz crystals, fluorite, garnet, jasper, agate, evidence of Glacial Lake Missoula, nice examples of gneiss, calcite, and much more! Our friendly geologists and rock club members will share places they love and how these rocks fit into the fascinating geologic history of Montana.
If the weather is nice we will meet in the garden at the east end of the Montana Natural History Center building, otherwise we will meet indoors.
