Description

Ready to apply for your first job, undertake work experience or build your confidence for future employment?

The Shire of Murray Youth Team is excited to present a flexible job-readiness program for young people aged 12 to 25 during the October School Holidays.

Participants can choose one, two or all three workshops—simply select the sessions most relevant to you when booking.

Résumé Workshop

11:30 am–12:30 pm | Murray House | FREE

Facilitated by SMYL Jobs and Skills, this practical workshop will guide participants through the process of creating or updating a résumé.

Each participant will receive a résumé template that they can follow and begin completing during the workshop. Brainstorming activities will help participants identify their skills, strengths and experiences—even if they have not had their first job yet.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Structure and format a résumé

  • Decide what information to include

  • Identify transferable skills and personal strengths

  • Describe education, volunteering, work experience and other achievements

  • Tailor a résumé for different opportunities

Break

12:30–1:00 pm

Snacks will be provided for participants attending the Interview workshops.

Interactive Interview Workshop

1:00–2:00 pm | Murray House | FREE

Also facilitated by SMYL Jobs and Skills, this interactive workshop will help participants build confidence and practise responding to interview questions in a supportive environment.

Activities will include:

  • Speed Interviews: Pair up and take turns asking and answering interview questions

  • Question Jar: Select a question, take 30 seconds to prepare and practise your response

  • Hired or Fired: Vote for the strongest answer to common interview questions and discuss what employers may be looking for

Participants will also learn how to prepare before an interview, talk confidently about their skills and experience, answer common questions and make a positive first impression.

Break

2:00–2:30 pm

Snacks will be provided for participants attending the Dress to Success workshop.

Dress to Success*

2:30–4:30 pm | Starting at Murray House | FREE**

Delivered by the Shire of Murray Youth Team in collaboration with Vinnies Pinjarra Shop, this session combines practical workplace presentation advice with a hands-on shopping experience.

The workshop will begin at Murray House with a short theory session covering workplace clothing do’s and don’ts, including what may be suitable for job interviews and different work environments.

The group will then make its way together to Vinnies Pinjarra Shop for the practical part of the workshop. Participants will browse the shop, try on suitable clothing and select an interview-ready outfit to take home.

  • One bottom item

  • Two tops, such as a blouse or shirt and a jacket

  • One pair of shoes, subject to availability

*To ensure this opportunity is available to as many young people as possible, participants may attend the Dress to Success workshop only once per calendar year. Anyone who has already attended this year is not eligible to register again.

** The Dress to Success workshop is free when booked as part of the full three-workshop program. Otherwise, a $5 registration fee applies.

Whether you are preparing for your first job, casual employment, work experience, volunteering or future career opportunities, these workshops will provide practical skills to help you feel confident and work-ready.

Bookings are essential, and places are limited, particularly for Dress to Success. Choose one or more individual workshops, or select the full program to attend all three.

Participants under 18 years of age must have a completed Youth Services Registration Form » Shire of Murray submitted before the event.
