Get Science Media Savvy - AusSMC media training (Fri 9th May)
Event description
Are you interested in how the media works? Do you get frustrated by what you read and see in the news? Do you want to help journalists report your subject better? If so, this is the event for you.
The Science Media Savvy workshop is designed to increase your confidence and give you the knowledge and media skills to help you engage more effectively with the wider public through the media.
This online session will be delivered via Zoom.
You will learn what makes a story, what drives the news agenda and what they need from you. You will also learn some practical techniques to improve communication, avoid jargon and tailor your message to your audience.
We will also provide top tips on planning and preparing for media interviews, and on lessons on developing a story that can be applied to improving stakeholder engagement, funding applications, public talks and outreach.
Presenter: Dr Joe Milton, Senior Media Officer at the Australian Science Media Centre
