Ghost Ballads: Songs of Murder / The Dark Side of Bluegrass: Josh Gross & Quartz Creek LIVE at The Rosebud
Description
Saturday, October 24th // Ghost Ballads: Songs of Murder / The Dark Side of Bluegrass: Josh Gross & Quartz Creek LIVE at The Rosebud // $20 // All Ages // Doors 6pm, Show 7pm // Folk, Murder Ballads, Bluegrass
Nationally recognized writer and musician Josh Gross presents a riveting, poignant, and strangely funny new one-man music/storytelling show exploring the literary and narrative history of murder ballads: a centuries-old folk music tradition of recounting and often justifying notorious crimes in song. But here, the songs, and the crimes they are based on, are given a supernatural twist, and told from the perspectives of the ghosts of the victims instead of from those of the killers. Part musical performance, part campfire story, part history lesson, part confessional, The Ghost Ballads puts a supernatural twist on a centuries-old musical tradition to present it in an entirely new light. The show will contain mature topics and themes. Run time is approximately 70 minutes.
The performance will be followed by a set of traditional Appalachian murder ballads from Rogue Valley bluegrass supergroup, Quartz Creek, featuring Tristan Moonbow Jensen of Moonbow, James McCoy of Crooken Heart, Coleman Antonucci, and Jack Worman.
