Giant Biodiversity Collage Sydney - Citizen COP 2026
Description
Kickstarting Citizen COP Australia with Australia’s Biggest Biodiversity Education Event: The GIANT Biodiversity Collage
Join the largest Biodiversity Collage ever held in the country — a powerful, collective biodiversity education experience happening simultaneously in cities and towns.
From Brisbane to Perth, Sydney to Melbourne, we’re inviting communities to take part in this one-of-a-kind, citizen-powered event. Because biodiversity literacy isn’t optional — it’s the foundation of real sustainable action.
What is The Biodiversity Collage?
The Biodiversity Collage is a science-based, participatory workshop that helps people understand the causes and consequences of biodiversity loss — and how this connects our economies and our everyday choices.
The workshop is grounded in robust scientific sources, including IPBES and peer-reviewed research, and creates a shared, accessible understanding through dialogue and collective learning.
⚙️ How does the workshop work?
Using a collaborative card game, each card represents an element of biodiversity and the pressures it faces.
Guided by a trained facilitator, participants work together to:
Explore ecosystems and the species that depend on them
Identify drivers of biodiversity loss and their impacts
Reveal connections between nature and human activity
Build a shared visual “collage” that brings the big picture to life
The session concludes with a creative and reflective discussion on solutions and actions at local and global scales.

Why this matters
Biodiversity underpins our food, water, health, economies, and quality of life — yet a deep understanding of biodiversity and ecosystem functioning is not a prerequisite for most decision-makers, despite the profound consequences of biodiversity loss for society.
At Citizen COP Australia, we believe every meaningful conversation and decision about nature, sustainability, and our future should begin with a solid understanding of biodiversity. That's why we're opening with the Biodiversity Collage — a collaborative workshop that helps participants explore the causes, consequences, and solutions to biodiversity loss through science-based learning and collective reflection.
Whether you're new to the topic or already actively engaged, this workshop will leave you:
✅ Equipped with science-based knowledge about biodiversity and ecosystems
✅ More confident discussing nature-related challenges and solutions
✅ Inspired by the power of collective intelligence and shared learning
✅ Motivated to take meaningful action for nature in your community and beyond
This workshop is neutral, non-political, and designed to bring people together around the science of biodiversity — and the opportunities we have to protect and restore the living world.
Let's learn. Let's connect. Let's act for nature. 🌿
About Citizen COP Australia
Citizen COP Australia is a decentralised, people-powered movement running alongside the global COPs in 2026. Enabled by People For Nature, but intentionally independent and distributed, Citizen COP invites communities, organisations, schools, businesses, artists, and local groups across Australia to host their own events during the COP period. Rather than a single central event, Citizen COP is a nationwide network of conversations, workshops, and actions that bring global climate and nature discussions into local communities. It connects people to science, solutions, and each other, strengthening civic engagement and ensuring citizen voices contribute to Australia’s climate and nature conversations.
