Large-Scale Puppet Making — Term 4

Create giant puppets, learn puppetry skills and help bring an environmental story to life.

Join Parados Education for a hands-on four-week creative program where young people will design and build large-scale puppets inspired by Australian plants, animals, waterways and landscapes.

Working together as a creative team, participants will learn how to design puppet characters, construct lightweight frames using recycled materials, add colour and texture, and bring their creations to life through movement, sound and storytelling.

The program explores the idea of Honourable Harvest — taking only what is given, recognising that everything we receive from the natural world is a gift, and considering our responsibility to care for Country.

Participants will have opportunities to take on different creative roles including puppet building, design, performance, storytelling and music.

Over the four weeks participants will:

• Design their own large-scale puppet characters

• Build puppets using bamboo, wire, cardboard, fabric and recycled materials

• Explore painting, texture, costume and wearable puppet elements

• Learn puppetry, movement and teamwork techniques

• Develop environmental stories, sound and performance ideas

• Work collaboratively towards a shared puppet performance

The completed puppets will become part of a collaborative performance exploring connection to Country, ocean, plants, animals and community.

This is a practical, creative program for young people who enjoy making, designing, performing, working with others and exploring ideas about the natural world.

The program culminates in a collaborative puppet performance and sharing of the young artists' work with families and the wider community.
