Event description

Event Description:

Dreamt up by an enthusiastic dad and his daughter, Gidge Ridge is an overnight live music event held on Whadjuk Noongar land. For the inaugural edition of this mini-fest, we’re so excited to bring you a stacked local lineup, good food + camping in the serene bushland of Gidgegannup!

Gidge Ridge brings together some of the finest and funnest live acts in the west. Think: Fairbridge Festival meets Camp Doogs with the intimacy of a house party and the serenity of a hills camping retreat. We kick off the weekend with the alt folk of Heathcote Blue as the pinky glow of sunset is cast over sweeping valley views. After a break for dinner, new favourites The Bures Band propel us into evening hours with their exceptional nostalgia folk-rock, shimmering harmonies and guitar hooks. The final live act of the evening: punk-Aus-alt-rock from the chaotic but ultra-charming supergroup Didion’s Bible. Watch from the custom-built amphitheatre or descend to the front-of-stage dance floor and get down and dirty. After live music finishes, festivities kick on with relaxed boogie energy, hand-picked tunes from festival curators, and late night heart-to-hearts in the true spirit of Hills house parties.

For the early risers on Sunday morning we have a guided bush walk from ecologist Dr Libby Trevenen around the valley and up to the peak of the property. Then breakfast to accompany morning solos and duos from local favourites Nika Mo, Jacob Wylde and a very special musical contribution from festival host Eric Moses (Nika Mo's dad!).

Located in the north-eastern hills of Boorloo, the name Gidgegannup comes from the Whadjuk Noongar word gidge meaning spear, translating to place where spears are made. We acknowledge the Whadjuk Noongar people as the custodians of this land and its rich bio-diverse ecology. Nearby to the north-east, following the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River) as it turns into the so-called Avon River, is Ballardong country, stretching out inland. We acknowledge elders past and present, and all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across this continent in their resilience and resistance to ongoing oppression and violence of the colony that is so-called-Australia. This event takes place on stolen land, and we ask that everyone practices mindful acknowledgement of this fact as we celebrate and gather on beautiful Whadjuk Noongar boodja. Always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
