Gidge Ridge — Kambarang
Event description
Dreamt up by an enthusiastic mum, dad and daughter, Gidge Ridge is an overnight live music event held on Whadjuk Noongar land. We're back for the second edition of this mini-fest, and we’re so excited to bring you a stacked local lineup, good food + camping in the beautiful bushland of Gidgegannup!
Gidge Ridge brings together some of the finest and funnest live acts in the west. Think: Fairbridge Festival meets Camp Doogs (rip) with the intimacy of a house party and the serenity of a hills camping retreat. Kicking off the evening with a sunset serenade is Clove band. This super group dish out the best that folk-rock has to offer, with sing-along hooks, sparkly guitars and vocal harmonies galore. From the land of clove we move to the WORLD of SPICE with Naarm/Boorloo chaos units Spice World. Their jangle-folk diy aesthetic and gushing sentimental lyricism is unmatched in the West and the East alike. They'll be sharing some new music (!) and bringing their usual max-faff energy to the party. We finish off the live acts with Dead Tooth Hottie, one of Boorloo's greatest unsung art-rock heroes. Drum machine, denim jackets, new wave tinged grooves and bass lines that your body can simply not deny. Dead Tooth Hottie's bio: "Wriggle about with us, slowly and sexily." And that we will. Throughout the night you can watch from the custom-built amphitheatre or descend to the front-of-stage dance floor and get down and dirty. And after live music finishes, festivities kick on with relaxed boogie energy, hand-picked tunes from DJ Yira, and late night heart-to-hearts in the true spirit of Hills house parties.
For the early risers on Sunday morning, stretch and get the muscles moving with artist & facilitator Maile Shanti (remember to BYO yoga mats!). Then roll onto a guided bush-walk with ecologist Dr Libby Trevenen. Brekky rolls for sale and free coffee/tea/juice while you soak up the morning music! Including: heartfelt country ballads from e.s.hughes, the dreamiest folk imaginable from singer-songwriter Pearl, and an intimate duo performance from rising hills star elianie!
Located in the north-eastern hills of Boorloo, the name Gidgegannup comes from the Whadjuk Noongar word gidge meaning spear, translating to place where spears are made. We acknowledge the Whadjuk Noongar people as the custodians of this land and its rich bio-diverse ecology. Nearby to the north-east, following the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River) as it turns into the so-called Avon River, is Ballardong country stretching out inland. We acknowledge elders past and present, and all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across this continent in their resilience and resistance to ongoing oppression and violence of the colony that is so-called-Australia. This event takes place on stolen land, and we ask that everyone practices mindful acknowledgement of this fact as we celebrate and gather on beautiful Whadjuk Noongar boodja. Mob enters free! Always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
