Led by professional facilitator and change maker Nidhi Kalaiya, Girl Up invites you to 'An Introduction to Intersectional Frameworks' - an eyeopening and transformative workshop exploring equity in the modern world! ❤️
Come along to learn more about 'intersectionality' - the ways in which different aspects of a person's identity can expose them to overlapping forms of discrimination and marginalisation. Following the workshop, our team will get creative - producing a group artwork reflecting on our learnings!
This introductory workshop will help individuals to understand the historical context of the term 'intersectionality', why it is important and how an intersectional lens can shape a more equitable world.

Who is Nidhi Kalaiya?

Nidhi is a systems-thinking consultant, change maker, writer and immigrant settler from Kenya, living on unceded Turrbal and Yuggera Country. Graduating from Deakin University with a Bachelor of International Relations and Languages, Nidhi founded zuka to centre intersectional collaborative methods of change with a focus on racial and gender equity.Nidhi leverages storytelling and educational workshops to positive change in workplaces and communities.
She has collaborated with organisations like Kind Enterprises, Beyond Blue and the Equality Institute to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in workplaces. Nidhi is currently the Learning Design Director at FW (Future Women) where she brings to life educational programs helping men engage in gender equity conversations through the Change Makers program. With over 15 years of experience across various industries, from tech startups to global non-profits, she has played a pivotal role in developing purpose-driven organisations.

'An Introduction to Intersectional Frameworks' provides examples and practical guidance on how to apply an intersectional framework within various areas, from research, data analysis, and designing policies.Please note: This is an introductory course designed for anyone who wants to learn a bit more about intersectionality with a focus on leadership and organisational design focusing on Australia.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Define intersectionality and its key concepts
- Explain why intersectionality is important when discussing social equity
- Apply intersectionality to analyse workplace inclusion and equity strategies
- Understand the importance of applying an intersectional lens.

The New Farm ferry terminal is a 5 minute walk from the Centre. Bus 196 stops right outside the New Farm Neighbourhood Centre at 967 Brunswick St. Bus 199 passes by the Brunswick St and Merthyr Rd intersection (a few blocks away), and Bus 195 runs during peak time only.
New Farm Neighbourhood Centre has wheelchair accessible parking spaces and wheelchair accessible (+ gender neutral) bathroom facilities. An accessible path runs from the entrance to parking and public transport facilities and door frames are wide-enough to accommodate wheelchairs.
