Girls weekend at Tāwharanui Regional Park

Tent camping at coastal campground
March 29th @10am to March 30th @2pm
Join us in Tāwharanui Regional Park for a weekend of seaside tent camping and water activities! Experience the Tāwharanui Marine Reserve through snorkeling and rock pool exploring and hike the beautiful tracks of the regional park. Camp overnight at the seaside campground within the regional park, go for a night walk and look for kiwi! Designed for ladies 19 & up, a mix of adventurous water sports will be on offer, depending on the wind and sea state. These could include paddle boarding, body boarding, surfing or snorkeling.
Knowledgeable female leaders from the Sir Peter Blake Marine Education and Recreation Centre will support you to take part in, gain new skills and knowledge in a range of adventurous water activities. No experience is necessary, the most important thing to bring is a positive attitude and an open mind. Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned expert, all water-loving women are invited.
What's Included
All necessary equipment and gear will be provided for the water activities. Meals are not included. Bring along your togs, wetsuit, towel, overnight bag and food. This is a tent camping trip, so bring the following equipment if you have it; tent, gas cooker, sleeping mat and sleeping bag. Some items may be available to hire from MERC if needed – we will contact you about this prior to the trip.
About Wāhine on Water
Wāhine on Water is an initiative created to empower ladies in the often male-dominated sport – ocean recreation. We encourage females 19 & up to engage in this opportunity. The program is made affordable through targeted funding from the Tu Manawa Fund by Harbour Sport, who subsidising the cost for wāhine between the ages of 19-24yrs, who reside in North Auckland. This event is part of a series over 4x weekend camping trips and 2x four-hour Sunday sessions, which provide the perfect environment to learn new skills and join a community of other North Shore wāhine learning how to safely participate in ocean recreation.

Subsidised ticket rate is for females living in these regions:
- Devonport-Takapuna Local Board
- Hibiscus and Bays Local Board
- Kaipatiki Local Board
- Rodney Local Board
- Upper Harbour Local Board
