Girraween BioBlitz – Friday Night Frog & Reptile Spotlighting

We've added a bonus Friday night spotlight walk! With our other evening walks filling so quickly, Paul Donatiu has kindly agreed to lead an additional nocturnal adventure exploring some of Girraween National Park's frogs and reptiles.

We'll head out from the Girraween Day Use Area and explore along the Junction Trail and Bald Rock Creek, spotlighting after dark in search of frogs, reptiles and other nocturnal wildlife.

The waterways, granite landscapes and surrounding woodland provide a fantastic range of habitats for Girraween's smaller nocturnal inhabitants. With Paul's knowledge of the park's flora and fauna, we'll keep our eyes peeled for whatever emerges after sunset and learn more about the species we encounter along the way.

This is a great opportunity to experience Girraween after dark and discover some of the wildlife that can be difficult to find during the day.

Please wear sturdy, comfortable footwear and dress appropriately for the weather. Nights on the Granite Belt can be very cold, even in October, so bring plenty of warm clothing. A torch or headlamp is essential, and we recommend bringing spare batteries if needed.

The walk will involve walking along natural tracks at night and may include uneven or rocky terrain. Please follow the instructions of the event leader and take care when moving around in low-light conditions.

Accommodation: Accommodation is not provided as part of the Girraween BioBlitz. Camping is available at the Girraween Camping Area, but availability is currently limited due to drought conditions, so we recommend booking early. A range of other accommodation options to suit different budgets is available in Stanthorpe and the surrounding area.

Please note that frog and reptile sightings cannot be guaranteed, and the exact route and survey activities may vary depending on weather conditions and the wildlife encountered on the night.
