Description

Saturday Morning Botany Survey

Come and explore some of the incredible plant diversity around Dr Roberts Waterhole in Girraween National Park, led by Andrew Pengelly from the Stanthorpe Rare Wildflower Consortium.

Girraween is renowned for its unique Granite Belt landscapes and remarkable diversity of native plants. This survey is a chance to slow down, look closely and discover some of the many species growing around Dr Roberts Waterhole, while learning more about the plants that make this area so special.

Andrew will share his extensive knowledge of the local flora and help participants identify and appreciate the diversity of plants encountered along the way.

When: Saturday 17 October 2026, 9:30 am–12:30 pm
Leader: Andrew Pengelly, Stanthorpe Rare Wildflower Consortium
Meeting point: Dr Roberts Carpark https://maps.app.goo.gl/McUFxXjZySfsv3Bh7

Please wear sturdy, comfortable footwear and dress appropriately for the weather. Early mornings on the Granite Belt can be very cold, even in October, so bring appropriate warm clothing. We also recommend bringing water, sun protection and a hat. A hand lens or camera can be useful if you have one.

The survey will finish at approximately 12:30 pm, after which you are welcome to join us for lunch before taking part in some of the other Girraween BioBlitz activities.

Accommodation: Accommodation is not provided as part of the Girraween BioBlitz. Camping is available at the Girraween Camping Area, but availability is currently limited due to drought conditions, so we recommend booking early. A range of other accommodation options to suit different budgets is available in Stanthorpe and the surrounding area.
