Description

Girraween BioBlitz – Saturday Night Frog & Reptile Walk

Join Vince Watego from Friends of Parks Queensland for an evening exploring Girraween National Park in search of some of its smaller nocturnal inhabitants.

As darkness falls, we'll head out around Bald Rock Creek to look for frogs, reptiles and other wildlife that becomes active after sunset. Vince will share his knowledge of the local fauna and help us discover some of the fascinating species that can be found in and around Girraween's waterways and surrounding habitats.

Nocturnal surveys are a great way to experience Girraween from a completely different perspective, with frogs calling, reptiles emerging and plenty of other wildlife potentially making an appearance along the way.

When: Saturday 17 October 2026, 7:00–9:30 pm

Leader: Vince Watego, Friends of Parks Queensland

Meeting point: Girraween Day Use Area https://maps.app.goo.gl/V1sfLbL1dWVLxNSaA

Please wear sturdy, comfortable footwear and dress appropriately for the weather. Nights on the Granite Belt can be very cold, even in October, so bring plenty of warm clothing. A torch or headlamp is essential, and we recommend bringing spare batteries if needed.

The walk will involve walking on natural and potentially uneven terrain in low-light conditions, so please take care and follow the instructions of the event leader.

Accommodation: Accommodation is not provided as part of the Girraween BioBlitz. Camping is available at the Girraween Camping Area, but availability is currently limited due to drought conditions, so we recommend booking early. A range of other accommodation options to suit different budgets is available in Stanthorpe and the surrounding area.
