Girraween BioBlitz – Sunday Morning Butterfly Survey

Join fauna ecologist Chris Sanderson from BAAM for a morning exploring the butterfly diversity of Girraween National Park around Mount Norman.

We'll explore the distinctive habitats around Mount Norman in search of butterflies, learning about the species we encounter and their ecology along the way. Spring provides an exciting opportunity to discover the diversity of butterflies active across Girraween's Granite Belt landscapes.

This is a great opportunity to spend time in the field with an experienced fauna ecologist, improve your butterfly identification skills and discover some of the fascinating insects that call Girraween home.

Please note: If you are attending an early morning survey or camping at the Girraween Camping Area, please allow approximately 30–40 minutes to drive to the Mount Norman Day Use Area. If you are joining us for breakfast beforehand, you will need to leave the Girraween Day Use Area before 9:00 am to arrive at the meeting point on time.

Please wear sturdy, comfortable footwear and dress appropriately for the weather. Bring plenty of water, as well as sun protection and a hat. The survey will involve walking through natural habitats and may include uneven and rocky terrain.

Accommodation: Accommodation is not provided as part of the Girraween BioBlitz. Camping is available at the Girraween Camping Area, but availability is currently limited due to drought conditions, so we recommend booking early. A range of other accommodation options to suit different budgets is available in Stanthorpe and the surrounding area.
