Event description

The 2020 US presidential election will go down as one of the most explosive in the nation’s history. Early voting records have been shattered, and polls are indicating that it’ll be an incredibly close race.

To understand the racial and social ramifications of the election’s results, Quillette is proud to present veteran professor and public intellectual Glenn Loury, hosted by Josh Szeps!

Glenn Loury has led an illustrious career, being the first black tenured professor of economics in the history of Harvard University, hosting the popular podcast The Glenn Show, and authoring  The Anatomy of Racial Inequality, Incarceration and American Values, and One by One From the Inside Out. He’s also been a contributing editor of The New Republic and The Boston Review.

Unafraid to voice his opinions, Glen has urged influential intellectuals to distinguish between legitimate protests and riots, cautioning that “America [is] in a very dangerous situation now...the dry tinder lays at hand needing only a spark to start a conflagration” - Condemn this Violence without Equivocation, Glenn Loury

Will this election prove to be the spark that he warns of? If the election is a narrow victory, will the US see more civil unrest? Join the seasoned scholar of racial inequality as he provides invaluable commentary of America’s “racial reckoning”, tackling the issue with empathy, passion and analytical rigor.
