‘My Spirit, My Country’ harnesses the talent of First Nations fashion designers from around the world and for the first time the fashion runway will showcase in the City of Geelong.
The highly acclaimed Global Indigenous Runway is well known to the PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival and celebrates its tenth year with the festival. Fashion and culture are celebrated on this runway and will touch you and speak to the hearts of its audience. In the fashion world we can see a mirage of Indigenous totems and tribal patterns influence designs by First Nations designers. So how does spirituality and connection to homelands resonate in the fashion and design world?
Storytelling on the Runway will bring life to the Indigenous fashion collections and deepen the audiences understanding of sacred places deep within ourselves, and connections to our people and our country.
The Global Indigenous Runway – ‘My Spirit, My Country’ presents a rare and unique opportunity to witness the ensemble of First Nations fashion designs from around the world and tantalise your fashion taste buds as they share their fashion interpretations of ‘My Spirit, My Country’.
Local Indigenous Creatives will set the scene of the runway and draw you in with their captivating aesthetic and performances while more than 40 Indigenous young people strut their newfound confidence on the runway as they model with pride. An additional surprise is that for the first time a group of local mature aged Aboriginal models will join the ranks of First Nation models making up the largest contingency of First Nations models to model for any fashion festival.
About the event organiser:
After many years of requests by community in Geelong we decided to take the Global Indigenous Runway to them. Global Indigenous Management and Indigenous Runway Project have partnered with the Wathaurong Aboriginal Cooperative and Local Aboriginal Educational Consultative Group to showcase its highly acclaimed runway fashion event in Geelong.
