Global Training Webinar: Professor John Gibson
Event description
Shedding light on night light data
Artificial Night-time Lights (ANTL) have been widely used in social science research as a robust proxy for economic
development, the quantification of disaster impacts, electricity consumption, and various other applications.
However, employing ANTL in social science research requires a comprehensive understanding of confounding factors,
necessitating their individual consideration based on the specific needs of the application.
To launch our second global training, we will be hosting Professor John Gibson from the University of Waikato (New
Zealand) for a webinar on artificial night lights, their importance and their applications. This training
program is coordinated by Dr Bishal Bharadwaj (Theme Lead: Energy and development) and the technical lead
is Dipendra Bhattarai
