Glocalization of Arts and Creativity in Hong Kong Early Childhood Education with Jerry Yeung and Alfredo Bautista
Description
Under the influence of globalization, Asian countries often borrowed educational notions and policies from Western societies when designing planned curriculum frameworks. However, the cultural differences between the West and the East are well-documented in existing literature. Researchers have warned that blind policy borrowing may lead to serious difficulties when it comes to policy and curriculum enactment. Glocalization, which refers to the process of hybridization of global and local perspectives in education, is important for curriculum designers to culturally situate a curriculum.
In this webinar session, the two speakers will share a line of research they started in 2020 that explored the perspectives of Hong Kong early childhood education (ECE) stakeholders to glocalize the "Arts and Creativity" learning area within the kindergarten curriculum. Drawing on findings across several studies conducted by them, they will share five curriculum changes recommended for the Hong Kong Education Bureau. Additionally, the first speaker will reflect on his prior work and share his personal transition from an arts-and-creativity researcher to a creativity researcher in recent times.
