Go Beyond: Poetry Masterclass with Sarah Temporal

Wednesday, November 13th
10am-12pm
WestWords Centre for Writing
41 Hunter St, Parramatta

Visiting Sydney from the Northern Rivers, Sarah Temporal is offering this masterclass for poets with an existing writing practice, who are looking to advance their craft. Poets will be invited to submit their work ahead of time, as the masterclass will be dedicated to feedback and workshopping. Sarah specialises in creating supportive workshop settings, and working across a wide variety of styles: from contemporary, confessional, collage, retellings, lists and spoken-word.

If you are looking to unlock the next level in your poetry craft, this workshop is for you.

Stick around Parramatta that day, for on Wednesday Night (13th November) Sarah is performing as the featured Poet at the WestWords West Side Poetry Slam. 7pm. More information here.

Sarah Temporal is a prize-winning poet, producer, and educator from the Northern Rivers NSW.

Sarah Temporal lives on Bundjalung lands in the NSW Northern Rivers. Her writing is concerned with revealing our hidden selves, and ranges from personal confessions to reclaimed fairy tales. With a background in education, she has taught poetry to hundreds of people from ages 8 to 89, and now runs a regional arts initiative (Poets Out Loud) to empower voices of all ages. Arriving after twenty years of performing live, Tight Bindings is her first published collection.

Her poetry appears in Best of Australian Poems, Australian Poetry Anthology, Cordite, Meniscus and more. She has been a finalist three times for the Arts Queensland XYZ Prize for Innovation in Spoken-Word. She is the winner of The Bunker Spoken-Word Prize 2021 and the Nimbin Performance Poetry World Cup 2019. Sarah has featured at Byron Writers Festival, Kyogle Writers Festival, Indie Festival Maitland, National Folk Festival, and more.

Sarah is a skilful and inclusive facilitator and host, running poetry events and projects through her community arts initiative, Poets Out Loud. She has facilitated writing workshops for Red Room Poetry Month, Wollongong Writers Centre, and the GranSlam project (slam poetry for seniors), as well as a year-long masterclass for young writers through the Storyboard program with Byron Writers Festival.

Sarah is recognised as a community leader in regional poetry and spoken-word, with a reputation for inclusivity and quality.
