In our first session, Edwina Shaw will teach us how to craft plot through character. Even fast-paced thrillers and crime novels work best when the plot is shaped through the desires and faults of the main characters. But how do you create a character with enough oomph to carry a novel? Each main character needs to have a CURSE, a CAUSE, a CRAVING or a CALLING, something that is driving them forward so that they will keep getting up and finding a new plan, each time we, as authors, knock them down. More than this, what deep wound will be healed when they achieve their goal? How can their strengths be used to shape plot points, and their weaknesses? Join Edwina Shaw for this fun, interactive workshop helping you to delve deep into your characters to create a compelling plot readers won’t be able to put down.

In our second session, Gabrielle Davis will teach us how to navigate marketing online. When she was preparing to publish her first book, she was overwhelmed and horrified at the prospect of online marketing. Now, she is comfortable and confident with a strategy that works. This workshop will go through overcoming some of the fears, as well as a host of practical tips she learned from successful self-published authors about finding your audience online, engaging them, and keeping them interested.

Members and visitors are all welcome.

Entry prices are:

ABOUT GCWA

The Gold Coast Writers’ Association is a not-for-profit organisation.

Our mission is to encourage and support writers from all genres, age groups, and levels of experience to grow, learn, and excel in their craft.

Our events offer the opportunity to connect and share with like-minded people in a relaxed environment.

Guest speakers are invited from all genres of writing. Speakers are encouraged to share information about their writing life, discuss their techniques, and sell their books.

We encourage guest speakers to include a mini-workshop for members during their presentation.

Workshops are held at each meeting. These workshops provide informal opportunities for members and visitors to enjoy hands-on writing, listening, and reading activities in small groups.

Membership offers the additional advantages of being able to sell your books at the meetings, attending our member-only critique groups, and much more.
