Goldfields Folk & Roots: Autumn Folk
An Exchange of Exquisitely Australian Songs of Heart & Country
Valley Road • Jesse Lawrance • Mandy Connell
Hosted by Mandy Connell, creator of An Otherwise Quiet Room, The Coolroom presents an evening of reflective and lyrically rich songs. Joining Connell for an exchange of exquisitely Australian songs of heart and country are Valley Road with Rebecca Jane Howell & Marty Mckenna • Jesse Lawrance • Mandy Connell.
Held in the glorious, comfortable listening room of The Coolroom at the Northern Arts Hotel, this is a powerful exchange between consummate and renowned folk song writers, facilitated by Connell's skill and passion for collaboration and eliciting stories from those on stage with her.
VALLEY ROAD Rebecca Jane Howell & Marty Mckenna have spent over a decade sharing music around the kitchen table at Marty's sheep farm. Their love of folk in all its forms is reflected in their thoughtful songwriting, sparkling guitar lines and easeful vocal harmonies. Their songs are rich in imagery, containing echoes of the dry bush and rolling basalt hills of Central Victoria.
“Listening to Valley Road’s debut album is like finding a patch of shade from the relentless burning sun. It has a restful, quiet beauty that invites you to linger. Their gentle harmonies weave stories of people and places that seem from another time. It's a distilled kind of beauty. A gently plucked guitar, a simple fiddle line and sweet melodies showcase the essence of their sound.” - Vikki Thorn, The Waifs
JESSE LAWRANCE is a seasoned singer-songwriter with roots firmly planted in the Texas songwriter tradition and a deep appreciation for country and Americana genres, he crafts songs that are gritty and poetic. Jesse’s lyrics combine powerful imagery with deft story-telling to create moving vignettes from the raw materials of life; think Guy Clark or Townes Van Zandt.
