Event description

Join Humans For Good and Ecomind for a night of connection and conversations that matter.

Dinner clubs are on the rise around the world, but there are not too many that exist in Australia or that focus on social impact (yet)! So we've decided to try one out, and bring a group of great people together who care about climate change.

Hosted at Newtown-based social enterprise Parliament On King, our 'Good Talk Club' on the 2nd May will be all about understanding your climate anxiety, and turning it into action. We are here to provide a casual, inclusive and cosy space to explore climate change, and how we can all be working together to do a little more good for people and the planet.

Humans For Good has partnered up with an incredible climate-focused organisation – Ecomind, who will be sharing a few stories and practical insights at the beginning of the night. The rest of the event will be spent getting to know each other, with lots of candid and authentic conversations, and connecting in the way we have for thousands of years: over a shared meal. This will be prepared by one of Parliament On King's amazing asylum seeker and refugee chefs, and inspired by their homeland (e.g. Burmese/Rohingya, Iraqi, Iranian, Palestinian, Nepali, Sri Lankan, or Ugandan). Our chef for the night will also be available to share their story, and to have a chat and answer your questions.

Who is this dinner for?

This will be a small, curated event for 20 members of the Humans For Good and Ecomind communities. It is for anyone who is –

  • Feeling concerned about climate change
  • Keen to meet like minded who care about the planet
  • Looking to understand how they can translate their climate anxiety into action
  • Working or volunteering in the climate space (or wanting to)
  • Wanting to reflect and swap learnings on how to vote for the planet this election
  • Keen to continue conversations post Climate Action Week

Why join us?

  • Good food: Connect around a meal that has been prepared by chefs who are from marginalised backgrounds
  • Good causes: Talk about climate action, while funding a social enterprise
  • Good humans: Get to know likeminded people who share your values and care about similar things

What's included in your ticket?

Your $49 ticket will provide access to a community of likeminded people and cover the event (our venue, our chef's time, and any operational costs leading up to the dinner), and the following meal:

  • Dal with vegetables (vegan and gluten free)
  • Black pepper chicken (halal and gluten free)
  • Green salad with lemon dressing (vegan and gluten free)
  • Plain basmati rice (vegan and gluten)

Dietary requirements are not a problem – please just let us know in advance / at the check-out! You will also be welcome to enjoy a good selection of sensibly priced wines and beers, as well as coffees teas, juices and soft drinks for an extra charge.

Most importantly, your ticket will fund the incredible work that Parliament On King does in providing hope and opportunity to asylum seekers, refugees and recent migrants to Australia.

About Humans For Good

We are a community for Aussies who want to turn their good intentions into impact, and do their part to make the world a better place. It’s really easy to feel overwhelmed and powerless when confronted with big global issues. So many of us care, but don’t know where or how to start taking action. The Humans For Good mission is to make it a little easier to make a difference, by creating conversation and connection around the causes we all care about. We aim to connect our members with the opportunities, information and humans that we need to have a positive societal & environmental impact – at home, at work, and in our communities.

About our partners – Ecomind and Parliament On King

Parliament On King is a catering-focused social enterprise that provides hope and opportunity to asylum seekers, refugees and recent migrants to Australia. Everything they do is about creating meaningful social connections between asylum seekers, refugees, recent arrivals to Australia and the local community that, in turn, address social isolation, discrimination, social and economic disadvantage to build a stronger, safer more peaceful and inclusive Australia for us all. Parliament On King is here to build bridges of understanding between people and across cultures, and make those who make their way to Australia feel wanted, valued, cared for and needed. To help them find the safety, sanctuary, happiness and belonging they seek – and to create the opportunity for all to participate meaningfully in the social, cultural and economic life of Australia.

ECOMIND is a climate mental health charity which helps young Aussies turn their climate emotions into climate action. ECOMIND works with climate mental health practitioners and experts to build awareness campaigns, tools, resources and support networks to help young people care for themselves, each other and the planet.
