This brunch will be taking place at All Things Equal – a Melbourne-based social enterprise empowering people with disability through award-wage employment, purposeful training, and pathways to rewarding careers in hospitality. It will be hosted by Faiz – a Humans For Good member, tech nonprofit nerd, marketing professional and reformer pilates enthusiast.

What will we be talking about?

"The world's most talented people are coming out of colleges trying to solve the world's most lucrative problems, not the world's most important problems." - Atul Satija (founder of India's first tech unicorn)

Tech nonprofits like Wikipedia, Rocket Learning, Khan Academy, Firefox, and Signal tackle challenges that for-profit companies aren't interested in; Serving underserved markets and unprofitable but critical needs. Capitalism excels at solving profitable problems, but what about the important ones? Will we have drone-delivered pizza before a billion people access clean water?

Tech nonprofits have the unique ability to achieve product-market fit and generate revenue while staying mission-focussed; unlike companies that start with good intentions but become corporate machines once VCs and profit-driven interests take control.

This brunch is for optimists, utopians, and dreamers who see their careers as forces for good.

Join us to explore how technology can serve humanity's most important problems, not just its most lucrative ones.

What is Good Talk?

We're a different kind of dinner club. Our daytime and evening events are a chance to get to know a small group of other people who want to have a positive social and environmental impact, while directly supporting the work of a local social enterprise.

This looks like –

  • Good food: Share a meal at a local social enterprise cafe or restaurant that matches your interests and budget (keep an eye out for all upcoming brunches & dinners here)

  • Good causes: Have candid, authentic conversations about big issues, while funding employment opportunities and meals for people who need them

  • Good humans: Connect with new, purpose-driven friends and people to collaborate with, in a casual and relaxed space – versus the classic office or networking environment

What's included in your $ 20 ticket?

  • A seat at the table with new connections and meaningful conversation with a small, curated group of good humans in your city

  • Two meals that are donated to families facing hunger in conflict zones, including Gaza, through the UN World Food Programme

  • Support for your host from Humans For Good, who makes the event possible and is there to guide the night

  • A Whatsapp group chat before and after the event to stay connected

  • Humans For Good operational costs, so that we can sustain these events and have the biggest collective impact possible

What’s not included?

  • Food and drinks – you are welcome to order and pay directly for a coffee and/or food on the day, which is between about $5 (coffee) and $25 (food). Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options are available, and you can let the team know on the day if you have any dietary requirements

Your host for the day

Hosts are there to create good vibes, facilitate good convos, and answer any of your questions on the night.

This Good Talk brunch is hosted by Faiz – a Humans For Good member, tech nonprofit nerd, marketing professional and reformer pilates enthusiast.

If you're running late or have any questions before the event, please feel free to shoot Faiz a message on 0481 337 865 – or ask it to the Whatsapp group which you'll be added to!

Good Talk guidelines

During the event, please keep in mind that our hosts are not trained facilitators or mental health professionals – but community members who are there to share their learnings, and help to guide interesting and inclusive conversations.

A few other things to take note of and put into practice during the event:

  • Be a good human: we want the Humans For Good community to be a positive and safe space, where members are free to be their full and best selves. Please always demonstrate empathy and kindness toward other members. Check out our full code of conduct here

  • Listen and learn: Good Talk events are designed to be an inclusive space for anyone who is interested in doing a little more good in the world, so please make an effort to listen to and learn from those with differing perspectives, viewpoints and backgrounds

  • Share, don’t sell:Β we encourage you to share the great things that you’re working on, but do make sure it is educational or adds value in another way, rather than being sales-y or promotional in nature

  • Pay it forward: there’s so much magic in community, and we can achieve even more when we work together. Let’s keep up the collaborative vibes, and co-create a space for us to all contribute, give back and generally support one another as we work toward our goals

FAQS

Why organise brunches and dinners?

Humans For Good events (like Good Talk) bring together likeminded people in the way we have for thousands of years – around a shared meal. They're hereΒ to provide casual, inclusive and cosyΒ spaces to explore different global issues and their solutions. We want to cultivate meaningful connections, dialogue, collaboration and shared impact. Join us to get to know, listen to and learn from a group of diverse and passionate change-makers.

Who is Good Talk for?

Our community is for people of all ages, backgrounds and occupations. Whether you're actively working in the social impact space, or curious about how you can make more of a difference in our local and global community, you're welcome to join us.

What do I do if I can’t make it anymore?

We have limited spots at the table available, so every person plays an important role.

If you can’t make it, we’re happy to offer a refund up to 7 days before the event, so we have time to find someone to take your place. Inside that 7-day window, tickets are non-refundable – but you’re always welcome to transfer your spot to a friend!
