Google Earth Farm Mapping Workshop

In this workshop, you'll learn the basics of Google Earth mapping and how this technology can help you manage and track weed control. This workshop will be presented by Gippsland Beef Farmer and materials engineer Dietmar Jurgensen.

In addition, weed control information, ID help, and advice will be available from the South Gippsland Shire Weeds Education Officer.

Workshop Structure

• Google Earth basics & navigation

• Safety, whole farm planning, contractor use

• Marking structures with placemarks

• Tracing fences, pipes & cables

• Mapping paddocks & areas (including weed control/fertilizer use)

• Saving, organising & sharing the file

By the end, you should have a working map of your property showing things such as:

• Property boundary, fences, gates, and paddock boundaries

• Areas that require weed control or fertilizer

• Underground services and irrigation infrastructure

• Key structures — sheds, tanks, troughs, pumps, power poles

What to bring:

You must bring your own laptop. You will need a Gmail email account. Please set one up before the workshop if you do not already have one.

This workshop is limited to 20 people to ensure that everyone has the chance to ask questions and get advice on their own project ideas.
