Goolay'yari Sounds
Event description
AN AFTERNOON OF MUSIC, COMMUNITY AND SUSTAINABILITY ACTIVITIES ON THE BANKS OF THE COOKS RIVER / GOOLAY'YARI
A celebration of our unique Midjuburi identity in the Inner West as the year comes to a close: local musicians, community spirit and activities that shed light on stories of the river and its' sustainability.
Nestled among the towering gums on the iconic Marrickville Golf Course, this is MORE than a traditional sing-a-long and a picnic (although it will be those things too). It is an immersive, family-friendly and vibrant showcase of local creatives working across the live music scene; folk bands, musical theatre stars, jazz guitarists, local rock bands and icons of the Midjuburi ward.Â
Goolay’yari Sounds is your neighbourhood street-party, with Christmas crafts, roaming puppetry, local brews, familiar food haunts and more.
Above all, this event is an opportunity to raise awareness for the Cooks River / Goolay'yari, the urban waterway supporting our wildlife and services. In the Midjuburi ward of the Inner West, we share the River’s history, and its potential. A healthier River, is a healthier ‘us’.
So pack a picnic, a hat and a rug and settle in for a splendid afternoon of music and sun.
