GOST | Artist Talk | Colleen Southwell | Paper Artist

Colleen has kindly offered to talk to our visitors visiting the gallery's annual show, Homage to the Bird. Colleen was one of 8 artists invited to respond to their homage to the bird and we are delighted she will visit the gallery on Sunday, 27 September from 3-4pm.  Colleen will hold a general conversation about the weaving together of two practices of making – art and garden – they are both inextricably entwined and both require a gentle hand, and an understanding of the opportunities and limitations of the material (plants and paper). Colleen says, My days begin and end with walks around the garden, hence these observed moments of birds “The Light of Dawn” and “The Light of Dusk”.  Colleen will talk through the basic process, through the making of the garden as a home for us to be alongside these ‘neighbours’, and through the way they bring light to our day to our day to day.

Colleen's two artworks will be curated alongside 7 artists from 27 September to 18 October 2026. This includes: Shannon Garson and Fiona Hiscock (Ceramics), Jane Guthleben and Greg Oakley (Painting), Martin King (Print), Vicki Mason (Jeweller) and Tom Moore (Glass).
