Event description

The Berwick and District Bushwalking Club invites you to join them on the Grand Ridge Rail trail - Darlimurla to Boolara loop - Grade 2 (Easy) walk.  This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria.

Explore the Grand Ridge Rail trail, from Darlimurla to Boolara return.  A pleasant walk through hilly forested area of the Strzelecki Ranges.

DISTANCE:  13 km return walk that will take 4.5 hours.

WHO IS THIS WALK FOR?  This walk is suitable for beginner bushwalkers with little or no experience, who would like to walk in a safe and pleasant environment along a rail trail.  There are a number of facilities on the trail: information boards, marker posts, plus picnic tables, which make this a great experience for the new walker.

CHILDREN AND PETS:  This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home.  Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.

AWT GRADE 2 (Easy): Suitable for most ages and fitness levels.  AWT Grade information.

PACE:  Slow and steady pace with stops for morning tea and lunch.

TOTAL ASCENT:  Gentle ascent of 240m from Boolara.

WALK DESCRIPTION:

The walk begins at the Darlimurla station, where there are information boards regarding the history of the region and the rail trail.  The walk follows the old branch line originally from Morwell and crosses historic brick culverts and 2 steel arch bridges, which replaced the wooden bridges destroyed by fire in 2009.  This is a forested area of the Strzelecki Ranges with lots of bird life.

MEETING POINT:  Darlimurla Station, Darlimurla - Boolara Road, Darlimurla.  Please arrive 10 minutes before the start time.

DIRECTIONS:  From the Strzelecki Highway turn into the Darlimurla - Boolara Road, and after 2.7 km, the Station will be on the RHS.  Google map.
