Event description

One night only. One crime of passion. Infinite mischief.

From the masterminds behind Hobart’s infamous Fiddle Battles of 2024 comes a brand-new act of musical mayhem. Violists Will Newbery and Charlie McCarthy join forces for an audacious heist — stealing the greatest hits from violinists, cellists, and anyone else who ever dared to underestimate the viola.

This is not a “straight classical recital” it blends humor, audience interaction, theatrics, and unconventional repertoire choices.

Expect Bach cello suites with swagger, violin showpieces turned upside-down, pop songs gone delightfully rogue, and a few criminally funny surprises along the way. This isn’t your average recital — it’s a full-blown musical caper featuring theatrics, audience participation, and a record-breaking mass viola performance of Telemann’s Concerto.

Whether you’re a die-hard classical fan, a recovering violinist, or just someone who loves a good laugh and great music — this show will steal your heart (and possibly your repertoire).

Friday 17 October, 8 pm — St David’s Cathedral, Hobart

Grab your crew, bring your viola (if you dare), and witness this once-in-a-lifetime event.

One night only. Once it’s gone, it’s stolen forever.
