Description

Join Switch Your Thinking and City of Armadale for a bit of collective mending and participate in our clothes swap while you're at it!

The Great Global Mend is Australia's biggest simultaneous repair event: many hundreds of people across the country, all mending something at the very same moment, in an attempt to break our 2025 record (298 menders) for the most people repairing textiles simultaneously. Switch Your Thinking and the City of Armadale are proud to be taking part this year.

You don't need any sewing experience, menders will be there to help you fix your item from scratch, whether that's sewing on a button, patching a hole with a FabPatch, or mending a hem. Bring a basic hand-sewing kit if you have one, or just bring yourself; we have everything covered.

We'll also be running a clothes swap on the day! You're invited to bring up to 10 items of good quality, clean clothing (no underwear or shoes, please) to add to the clothes swap. And you will be able to take up to 10 pieces of clothing home with you.

Doors open at 9:00am

Clothes swap from 10:00am - 10:45am

Great Global Mend commences at 11am sharp!

Between 11:15am - 12:00pm - Mend to your hearts content and/or head back to the clothes swap table.

Places are limited and registrations are essential.

Morning tea will be provided.

About the Great Global Mend

The Great Global Mend is a national community event presented by FabPatch and Care to Rewear that brings people together to repair and mend clothing and textiles. At the heart of the event is a simultaneous mass-mending moment, where participants across multiple locations begin mending at exactly the same time.

The event celebrates community, creativity and circular fashion, helping people extend the life of their clothing, learn repair skills and take positive climate action. In 2025, participants across 15 venues joined the shared mending moment.

Participating is an opportunity to create meaningful local impact while being part of a larger national movement. By taking part, you will:

  • Reduce textile waste by helping extend the life of clothing and other items.

  • Inspire practical climate action through repair, reuse and circular economy principles.

  • Build community across ages, cultures and skill levels through shared activity.

  • Share and learn valuable repair skills, from sewing and darning to creative upcycling.

  • Connect with a growing network of councils, schools, businesses and sustainability groups.

  • Measure and celebrate your impact through participant numbers and outcomes.

Be part of a record-breaking movement showing how local actions create global change. Together, we're proving that repair isn't just about fixing clothes, it's about building stronger communities, preserving skills and creating a future where repair comes before replacement
