Great Photos in Sh!t Locations
Description
INTRODUCING A WHOLE NEW WORKSHOP!
GREAT PHOTOS IN SH!T LOCATIONS
Because great photos don’t need great locations. They need great photographers.
Ever looked at a location and thought, “There’s absolutely nothing here I can photograph!”?
A boring laneway. An ugly wall. A cluttered street. Terrible light. A background that makes you want to pack up your camera and go home.
Well, what if I told you that some of the most interesting photographs can be made in exactly those places?
Welcome to Great Photos In Sh!t Locations - a completely different kind of photography workshop!
I’ve been running this workshop at the Bright Festival of Photography over the past few years, where it’s been met with fantastic feedback and enthusiastic responses. Now, I’m bringing it to the streets of Melbourne, and I’d love you to join me!
Forget the perfect location. Learn to see the possibilities.
This isn’t another workshop about camera settings, complicated lighting setups or mastering the latest technical tricks. It’s about something far more fundamental, developing your visual skills and learning to see the world differently.
It’s about training your eye to recognise possibilities where others see problems. Finding beautiful light in unexpected places. Discovering interesting backgrounds in the most unlikely corners. Understanding how to use your lenses to change the way you see a scene, and learning to make creative decisions that transform an ordinary location into something extraordinary.
Because the truth is, you don’t always get to choose where you photograph people. Sometimes the location is less than ideal, the light is challenging, and the surroundings are downright ugly.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t make great photographs.
Three hours. Out on the streets. Hands-on photography.
For three hours, we’ll hit the streets of Melbourne and put these ideas into practice. We’ll explore, experiment, look at ordinary spaces with fresh eyes and discover photographic opportunities hiding in plain sight.
You’ll learn to be more deliberate about what you include in your frame, what you leave out, where you stand, how you use your lens and, most importantly, how to see a photograph before you take it.
This is about developing your photographic instincts, trusting your eye and making the most of whatever environment you find yourself in.
You might even find yourself looking at places you’ve walked past a hundred times and wondering why you never noticed their photographic potential before!
And the best part? These are skills you can take with you anywhere, from portrait sessions and weddings to street photography, travel and everyday shooting.
Who is it for?
Anyone who wants to make better photographs, become more visually aware and stop relying on the location to do all the hard work.
If you’ve ever struggled to make an uninspiring location work, or simply want to get more creative with the gear you already own, this workshop is for you.
No fancy studio. No perfect backdrops. No waiting around for the ideal conditions.
Just you, your camera, the streets of Melbourne and three hours of learning to see things differently.
