Green Drinks: Community Housing with QLDC & QLCHT
Event description
Join us at the next Green Drinks to hear about the district’s housing solutions.
Emily from Queenstown Lakes District Council will provide an update on the Joint Housing Action Plan and Julie from Queenstown Lakes Community Housing Trust will talk about the Trust’s available housing support.
They’ll also be keen to hear your ideas in the following discussion about local community solutions to the housing-affordability challenge.
This event is co-hosted with QLDC and Queenstown Lakes Community Housing Trust.
Speakers:
Emily Irwin, Queenstown Lakes District Council Strategic Housing Officer
Emily (Ngāti Porou) leads the implementation of the Queenstown Lakes Joint Housing Action Plan — a QLDC, central government, and QLCHT plan to address the housing challenges in our district. She has a policy background, and has worked at Treasury, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, Human Rights Commission, and the Ministry of Transport. Emily grew up in Hawkes Bay, visiting Queenstown Lakes on family holidays and while studying in Dunedin, before moving to the district in 2023.
Julie Scott, Queenstown Lakes Community Housing Trust Chief Executive
Julie joined QLCHT in 2007 and has an extensive understanding of housing issues in the district. Queenstown Lakes’ unique problems have led to the Trust being renowned for its innovative programmes. To this end, Julie has led a team which has successfully implemented two assisted home ownership programmes, rent-to-buy, affordable rental, first home buyer’s home loan programme, and contracted to central Government to deliver Public Housing. Originally hailing from East Otago, Julie background includes working for DoC, guiding on the Routeburn track, and ski patrol before finding her place in community housing.
