Workshop description

How can a story begin with a single image, a fleeting mood, or the atmosphere of a place? In this collaborative devising workshop, join theatre makers The Madness of Two as we’ll explore how tone and emotional truth can spark narrative, inviting participants to build short pieces together through shared writing, improvisation and discussion.

This is the process behind works such as our award-winning Claire Della and the Moon, which grew from the image of a girl stranded on the moon as a metaphor for loneliness. We’ll share prompts focused on mood, symbolism and atmosphere, supporting participants to let story emerge organically rather than through traditional plotting.

We’ll also give a glimpse into early ideas for our upcoming project There You Are, and how we are using immersive sound and dynamic writing to create intimacy, unease and transformation.

Open to artists and audiences of all backgrounds, this workshop is ideal for anyone interested in devising, interdisciplinary practice, or discovering new pathways into collective storytelling.
