Greenhouse Teachers' Co-working Prep Day with Donna Toulmin
Event description
After the success of our January experiment, we're offering teachers another opportunity to gather for a day of programming and planning just before the ANZAC Day long weekend. Get your tasks out of the way on the Thursday with us so that you can enjoy a full long weekend of rest before Term 2 kicks off. We'll also have a brief devotion from Donna Toulmin on helping to give young people hope in the face of the climate crisis.
All women in teaching are invited to this fully catered co-working prep day in the beautiful Anglican Deaconess Ministries office space just above Town Hall Station.
We'll make sure the day is a great balance of quiet productivity, hearing from God's word, being equipped for your service of young people, relaxing over good food and meeting others.
Is this a little bit like Study Camp for Teachers? It definitely is!
$22 for the day includes access to an amazing co-working space, timely input from Donna Toulmin, as well as lunch, drinks and lots of snacks!
There is also a $5 ticket option for those who would like to join us online via Zoom at 12:25pm - 1pm to hear Donna's devotion.
Program
9:30 am | Coffee/Tea, brunchy snacks and mingling your way into getting settled for a focused session of prep. |
9:55 am | Asking God for a great day that sets us up well for starting Term One. |
10:00 am | Biggest block of quiet productivity with a brief five-ten min stretch/chat/snack break in the middle. |
12:25 pm | Hearing from Donna: In Australia, a majority of young people are anxious about environmental crises. About one third are worried to such a degree that it impacts their functioning. Yet what messages are they hearing from the church about it? Some Christians ignore environmental crises, saying “God is going to burn it all anyway.” Other Christians say that God has made us stewards of this earth, so we need to act immediately to fix the problems. Both approaches can add to the anxiety that young people feel. Young people need to see that teachers and other adults in their lives care about God’s earth and are capable of helping them to navigate this time of crisis. In our devotion time, Donna Toulmin will turn to the gospels and see what Jesus can teach us about how we should respond to environmental crises in a way that eases our anxieties while inspiring us to care for the world with hope. You’ll leave better prepared to discuss this challenging issue with students—acknowledging the reality of these crises while pointing to Jesus as the pilot who can lead us through them. |
1:00 pm | Lunch Hour! A solid hour of time off to eat, meet other teachers, share resources and chat more to Donna. If you want, you can eat fast and then go out for a walk in the city for 45 mins, making the most of our central location! |
2:00 pm | Our second big block of productivity with a five min stretch in the middle. |
4:00 pm | Time to pack up, mingle, grab a last handful of snacks, get contact details of any one you might have connected with and pray together before we head home. |
4:30 pm | Home time! |
